Let's all have a moment of silence as we mourn the loss of Carnival 2020. And to those of you who got to attend Trinidad Carnival this year, I hope you realize how lucky you are! Despite everything that 2020 threw at us this year, despite the death of Kobe Bryant, a potential world war and even swarms of locusts, as a Carnival lover, the Covid-19 pandemic is one of the worst things that could happen. The guidelines given by the World Heath Organization for countries to protection themselves against the Covid-19 have drastically affected Carnival. Measures such as social distancing and self-quarantine don't coincide with culture of Carnival which see thousands of people all in the same place at the same time. So in an effort to contain the spread of the virus, many Carnival celebrations around the world have been either postponed or cancelled.
Here is a list of the current status of Carnivals around the world:

While I am glad I get a little more time to pay off my costume I am devastated that Carnival won't be happening any time soon. I'm missing so many fetes that I was definitely looking forward to. For those of you who also had your Carnival trip planned to a T and all you had to do was jump on that plane, I'm pretty sure you're just as devastated as I am. Instead of reveling in your sadness here are a few reminders to do for that cancelled or postponed trip, which you may have forgotten:
Remember to cancel or change your reservation of your flight, accommodations, and other essentials made for your trip. A lot of planning goes into Carnival and I'm sure you had all of this finalized months ago so be sure to contact your providers to see what they can do for you.
Decide what you will be doing with your costume. You may want to sell your costume yourself, or reach out the your band to sell it for you which is what is being done in Jamaica Carnival or you may even want to keep it for the new Carnival date. These are things you should definitely think about.
Reach out to party promoters to find out how they'll be managing the cancellation of their events. Will all tickets be refunded? Or will they be valid for the rescheduled date? You should find this out so you can decide if you would like to keep or sell your tickets or be refunded.
Although we won't be jammin' dung the road any time soon, please ensure that you are practicing social distancing practices as well as other sanitary measures to keep safe during this pandemic.
